Beach Cleanup

This year the whole school went down to the Onehunga Bay Reserve to pick up the rubbish that had accumulated down there.

There is way too much trash getting in the oceans! Yuck!

You can see in the photos the stylie green gloves we wore to protect ourselves. We needed them because we found cigarette butts, beer bottles and a keyring – which was pretty weird. Heaps of rubbish had blown across the reserve and collected where the grass met the sand. There was also heaps under the skateboarding ramp.

We cleaned it all up ourselves! We are definitely more aware of what can happen if people don’t pick up their rubbish, and of the effects of single use packaging. The people who use the reserve to walk their dogs must think that we’re pretty awesome, because it’s way nicer now.
