Peace education at Golden Grove Montessori Primary School

Personalised Montessori learning for children aged 5 to 13

“To assist a child we must provide him with an environment which will enable him to develop freely.” — Maria Montessori

At Golden Grove School, we follow the Montessori philosophy to create a calm and vibrant environment where curiosity, independence, and a love of learning can flourish. Designed for children aged 5 to 13, our school offers a unique alternative to traditional primary education, where children are seen, known, and encouraged to grow at their own pace.

Montessori education honours each child as an individual. Our classrooms are carefully prepared environments that support self-directed exploration, hands-on learning, and the natural development of independence and focus. Within these mixed-age settings, children learn from and alongside one another, building both confidence and community.

A Curriculum that Connects

Our programme integrates the Montessori method with the New Zealand Curriculum, ensuring children gain both foundational knowledge and real-world skills. Subjects such as language, mathematics, science, art, and social sciences are taught through interconnected themes that highlight the patterns of the world around us.

Golden Grove supports the development of:

  • Critical and creative thinking
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Social and emotional wellbeing
  • Independence and intrinsic motivation

We use a range of Montessori materials specifically designed to help children move from concrete experience to abstract understanding. These tools foster deep learning and are tailored to each developmental stage.

Learning with Purpose and Joy

Montessori education is about more than academic achievement; it’s about nurturing the whole child. Our small class sizes and high teacher-to-student ratios allow for individualised learning. Children are supported to become capable, self-aware learners who take joy in their work and pride in their progress. We believe that when children feel secure, respected, and engaged, they are free to reach their full potential. At Golden Grove, we foster a strong sense of belonging and connection with ourselves, each other, and the wider world.

“If education recognises the intrinsic value of the child’s personality and provides an environment suited to spiritual growth, we have the revelation of an entirely new child, whose astonishing characteristics can eventually contribute to the betterment of the world.” — Maria Montessori
